Nothing runs without electricity, which is why Intel ensures that every fab is as self-reliant as possible.
Electricity enters the site from outside utility companies at high voltage. It flows to transformers and distribution panels that step down power into different voltages for use by a range of equipment. Infrastructure equipment, such as boilers and chillers, operate at 4,160 volts, while tools and other process equipment run at 600, 480, 208, or 120 volts.
Every fab is connected to banks of battery backups and emergency generators to ensure that critical systems stay online in the event of a loss of utility power.
